Bangor: Monitoring sound levels in an urban environment
April 2023
Bangor is a regional centre in Gwynedd, North Wales with an international university and historic city centre that serves local residents, students and the surrounding area. As part of the regeneration of the city centre, Gwynedd Council and its local partners are working together to ensure that the centre is welcoming, vibrant and positively perceived.
A number of businesses and local stakeholders have reported concerns with anti-social behaviour (ASB), particularly in the evening and night. Examples include shouting and other behaviour linked to street drinking and loud cars driving through the city centre at high speeds. These incidents are believed to be contributing to negative perceptions of the city centre and to be having knock-on effects on footfall and spend.
